Improving Women's Reproductive Health (IWRH)

This program sensitizes both men and women in family planning to reduce overpopulation and improve family wellbeing. With an average of 5.3 babies per woman in Burundi, family planning is essential to prevent conflict and malnutrition.

Our 6 community health workers conduct weekly gatherings and house-to-house education on birth control and reproductive health. We've seen consultations increase from 120 to 600 per month since 2017.

Testimony

"Before FWA's education, I didn't understand family planning. Now my family is healthier and we can better provide for our children." - Marie, Mother of 3

Action on Gender-Based Violence (AGBV)

While RSS focuses on GBV case management, AGBV focuses on community mobilization to prevent gender-based violence before it occurs.

Starting in 2014 with Evangelical Friends Church leaders, we've expanded to work with local administration and community-elected leaders to create a network against GBV. We recognize that GBV is present even in religious communities and work to address it at all levels.

Testimony

"I am from the Batwa ethnic group. I was told that Batwa do not study and was discouraged from school. FWA GBV accompanists found me during home visits and encouraged me to return to school. Today I continue my studies and am part of FWA's savings group." - Nadine, Batwa Community Member
