FWA AUGUST 2016 REPORT
The section below summarizes the work done during the month of August 2016.
The association “Friends Women’s Association” (FWA) has signed a written contract with an organization called “Society for Studies and Execution of Works” SEETRAV in French. This last has produced the construction plans and cost for the second plot of land located at Kamenge, Songa Quarter, 8th Avenue, № 212 (See Attached). The objective is the extension of NTASEKA clinic to increase the services offered by FWA in Kamenge community and and its surrounding areas.
The second plot of land to be built
From July 31st, 2016 to August 6th, 2016, HORANIMANA Grace, FWA social worker, attended the AVP African Regional Gathering/Conference in Kigali which took place on July 31 through August 6th, 2016 at Friends Peace garden in Kigali, Rwanda.
During the month of August 2016, the activities done were about Link Up, IWRH, RSS, AGBV and CHIVPP projects.
Burundian Alliance Against Aids, ABS
As part of the Link Up project, different services were offered in the following logic:
42 young people from the target group, including 28 female and 14 male, underwent voluntary testing and received information about HIV/AIDS through pre and post-test counseling. We had 55 young female people from the target group (age between 16 and 24 years) for family planning and related information.
Improving Women Reproductive health (IWRH)
Two training sessions on family planning were done on August 29-30, 2016.
Rape Survivors’ Support (RSS)
The pilot self-help group is still meeting at FWA every Friday at 3:00PM. Two trauma healing workshops were done on the following dates: 22-24 August, 2016 and 25-27 August, 2016.
Action on Gender-Based Violence (AGBV)
On August 29-31, 2016, there was the third de-traumatization three-day workshop in Magarama monthly meeting. At the end of the workshop, GBV facilitators were given goats (One goat for two people). This will help them to build strong relationships among them and then, they will continue to act on GBV as a team. The goat will help them also to improve their family lives because it gives the fertilizer, meat and even money after multiplication.
Caring for HIV Positive People (CHIVPP)
During this month of August 2016, medical follow up, one dialogue group, nutritional support, home visits were done for HIV positive people.
Twenty cases were consulted by our doctor. The nurse received 131 patients including 60 adults and 71 children.
In the month of August 2016, apart from voluntary testing, there were a total of 123tests.

177 women received contraceptives from FWA’s nurse. 170 received the contraceptive injection and 7 were given pills.
Four women came for the pre-natal consultation.
At the end of August 2016, we had 85 patients under retro drugs followed at NTASEKA clinic, including 68 women and 17 men. We had also other 70 people under cotrimoxazole only. This means that we have a total of 155 people infected with HIV followed at NTASEKA clinic.
FWA was able to purchase all necessary medicines for the month of August 2016.
In the month of August 2016, 158 people received pre and post HIV test counseling and were tested for HIV; 55% of them were women and among the 12 people detected HIV positive, 7 of them were women with 8% of seropositivity.
